At Chapel Hill Pilates and Yoga Studio, we offer Pilates Reformer and a variety of yoga classes. All classes are 50 minutes in length unless otherwise noted. Please click here to see our class schedule and sign up for classes.
If it is your first time to learn Pilates on the Reformer, please call us to schedule a 45-minute introductory lesson. If you haven't had experience as a reformer, this is required before joining a class. During this time, we will introduce you to the Reformer and teach you the guiding principles of Pilates, which include centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing, and flow of movement. We charge a fee of $20.00, which will be deducted from your first purchase of a package of classes.
The Pilates reformer is the most versatile piece of Pilates equipment which uses springs and straps that create resistance from the participant's body weight. Well over 100 different exercises can be performed with the Reformer. This form of exercise requires that the mind is wholly engaged along with the body. Every exercise is performed with attention to the breath, form, and efficient maneuvering patterns. Classes are designed to build core strength, create uniform muscle strength and flexibility, and provide a full-body workout. Whatever the fitness level, the result is a body that works better, plays better, and feels better. Classes are limited to five clients and are taught by Balanced Body University-trained Pilates instructors who are also Registered Nurses.
Pregnant Clients: You may join a regular group class during the first trimester. During the second trimester, you need the instructor's approval and sign up 24 hours in advance. The third trimester requires private lessons for the safety of you and your baby.
We currently offer three varieties of yoga classes: mixed levels yoga, restorative yoga, and yoga Nidra. Class sizes are limited to 6 students so that attention may be given to each student. All classes are accessible, meaning that variations are provided to suit students with older bodies, larger bodies, bodies with different abilities, bodies with chronic illnesses or injuries, etc.
Mixed Levels Yoga: This vinyasa-style class is highly adaptable, allowing for many levels of ability while still providing a challenging class that will build strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance through a variety of poses. Breathwork and meditation are included in each class to enhance relaxation.
Restorative Yoga: This class is a very relaxing, slow, gentle practice where the body is arranged in different poses with the aid of props like bolsters and blankets. Holding the poses for several minutes allows gravity and deep breathing to slowly allow muscles to stretch and relax. While traditionally taught on the floor, variations in a chair are available and can provide similar relief.
Yoga Nidra: This class focuses on deep physical and mental relaxation through a 45-50-minute meditation practice. Students lie comfortably on the floor or in reclining chairs and are led through a series of physical, respiratory, and mental practices to help release tension, relieve stress, and give a sense of deep renewal. One yoga Nidra class has similar restorative benefits to a three-hour nap and can greatly improve sleep and stress levels.
